EMMY AND RATINGS WIN LAST NIGHT FOR ‘DID YOU GET THE MESSAGE?’

Belgium’s phenomenally successful hidden camera show ‘Did You Get the Message?’ received an International Emmy in the Non-Scripted Entertainment category at the 46th International Emmy Awards held in New York last night.

Currently in its second season, the series continues to dominate Monday evenings on VTM. Last night, the first episode of the second season even topped the already highly popular first season, scoring a market share of 35,9% in the 18-44 target vs last years’ average market share of 30,4% in the same target. The first episode achieved an impressive increase of 45% of the average 2018 channel market share (in 18-44).

The show debuted in Belgium in the fall of 2017, where it was the highest rated new launch on VTM. Since that time Be-Entertainment, the international distribution arm of MEDIALAAN, has finalized eight production deals, including the UK and the US. Local production in Germany for VOX (RTL Group) is set to air their local adaptation of the format soon.

‘Did You Get the Message?’, which offers a fresh take on the best way to get a message across so there’s no chance of it being forgotten, is the brainchild of Shelter Productions’ Tim van Aelst and Sofie Peeters. The company previously won International Emmys for its internationally successful formats ‘Benidorm Bastards’ and ‘What If?’

Says Tim Van Aelst, director at Shelter: “So there we were, TV producers from a small country among the international heavyweights. A first season winning the most prestigious award in the international arena is certainly something we’re very proud of.”

Sofie Peeters, showrunner at Shelter, adds: “This win is such a great team effort. It’s one thing to think up a fantastic format, but turning it into a success is another story. That only works if you work day and night as a team. Which we did.”

Prior to garnering an International Emmy, ‘Did You Get the Message?’ won a GOLD Award at the WorldMediaFestival in Hamburg in the category Entertainment: Comedy. It was also proclaimed ‘best new comedy format’ at MIPTV this year.
